I recently read a blog post about tips on time management.
I made a 28 dinner menu plan. 4 weeks of dinners!
I've tried this before, so I hope I can stick to it.
Here is my plan:
M- Stuffed Squash
T- Chips and dips
W- Sushi
T- Meat (whatever is on sale) and veg (whatever is in season)
F- Spaghetti
S- Chili
S- Fish
M- East Indian pouches
T- Zucchini lasagna
W- Fried rice
T- Shepherds pie
F- Shrimp pesto
S- Soup/stew
S- Risotto
M- Pot pie
T- Burgers
W- Meat (whatever is on sale) and veg (whatever is in season)
T- Quinoa casserole
F- Bangers and mash
S- Whole chicken with quinoa and veg.
S- Macauli and cheese
M- Wraps
T- Pizza
W- Tacos
T- Alfredo (shrimp/chicken)
F- Chicken wings
S- Curry
S- Meat (whatever is on sale) and veg (whatever is in season)
I tried to arrange it so I'm able to us similar ingredients a few days apart. Like the spaghetti, chili and lasagna, or I'll be making rice for the Indian pouches, and then making fried rice (which is better with cold rice anyway!), or I make curry and mac and cheese with cauliflower. I also arranged it so we didn't have a week full of beef, or pasta. We have at least one vegetarian meal a week.
And don't worry, when I say 'chicken wings' or 'fish' there will be a veggie or salad to go with it.
I'll eat leftovers for lunch.
I also like tips numbers:
1. If you’re going to waste time, do it at the end of the day rather than the beginning.
3. Have daily planning sheets and fill them out the night before
8. Purge items from your home at least every three months
As well as the tip:
Organize your day:
1st: essential
2nd: necessary
3rd: nice to do
Some of the other tips we won't do. We don't have the space for a million rolls of TP or garbage bags. We don't give gifts or cards much, and when we do, they are hand made, or very specific. We have a stupid tiny fridge so I can't make a lot to freeze.
I'm going to go buy some white boards for the menu and daily list.
Lets see if this time I can get on top of it!

dilemma in Beccaland
So. I'm cheesed at the moment.
I was passed over at Starbucks for a Shift Supervisor position. The DM (district manager) decided to strong arm my manager to promote someone else. I feel like my SM (store manager) didn't have the balls to say no, Rebecca is next.
The DM is aware I want to be a shift, and wants to promote me, but that means leaving my store, or waiting.
There are 2 maybe-sometime-there is no time line, but as early as March but not for sure possibilities to move up in my store. My SM is trying to fire someone, but it's next to impossible. And there is talk of other people being promoted, but no one knows *when*. For sure in September there is a chance, as someone is going to school and is stepping down.
SO. my dilemma.
I don't want to leave my store. Partly because I'm a creature of habit, and I don't like learning curves, and partly because moving stores as a shift means I'm more than likely stepping on someones toes who wanted to be a shift before me.
I HATE the thought of someone being upset because *they* where passed over. I don't want people to be upset at me.
Most peoples answer to that is "well, screw them!" I can't do that. If I stayed, I'd already feel guilty enough about my taking over if someone was fired.
One store that was talked about is too far to walk to. So my raise goes right to the TTC. but I'll also be getting 40 hours, as apposed to 20-30.
The other store is closer, but I'm not sure I'll like how the SM works. I feel like he's kinda sneaky.
The other factor is also an unknown. We're trying to get pregnant. I feel like the sooner the better for me to become a shift. So waiting until Sept. is out.
Do I sit on it, and hope a spot opens up soon? or do I change stores and maybe be miserable with the new SM and other staff?
I'm also trying to just let things pan out, and not push or rush anything. Like I've said before here, I believe in fate. There are decisions that need to be made, but there is a place I'm going to be. In the long run, I don't think it matters what decision I make.
But I DO need to make one. I'd like to be happy while I wait for fate to pan out. I can't just sit on my butt, I know that much.

day off, sad news
I have a day off, one that J is working, so I get the computer all to myself. There are a few things I've been thinking about. I'll write a few posts and stick a couple in the draft folder for later 'k?
My Stepmom's mom passed away last Tuesday morning. We called her Grandma Sherman, aka Nana by her bio grandchildren.
I hadn't seen her much over the past few years. When I was a teenager we would be at 'the Sherman's' for lunch after church, and spen Christmas eve with them, playing 'the present game'*.
Grandma Sherman was a tiny lady with a huge heart. She always greeted us (me and Sister) warmly and quietly. I always felt part of the family. Even when I dressed rather crazy, this conservative Nana never batted an eye. One of my favorite rememberings is that she always gave Sister and I 'man' glasses of milk. The Sherman girls (her daughters and granddaughters) where either young or petite and didn't eat as much as the big amazonian girls we where (Sister and I, at that point, where about 5'9", Sister might have been taller than me by then) When setting the table there was a distinction about where one sat because there where large 'man' glasses, and small 'lady' glasses. We must have asked for more milk a lot (milk was the preferred lunch beverage) because eventually we got 'man' glasses!
She was always busy, helping her family and Church.
When Grandpa Sherman passed away Nana included us in giving one of his paintings. All the grandchildren got one you see.
Rest In Peace Nana. Thank you for bringing us into the fold. I love you for it.

the durings and afters
It's been just over a month since I miscarried (I see the Doc on the 11th to find out more).
I've had a really interesting time observing my body change back to pre pregnancy.
One of the very first things that happened was my breasts pretty much deflated. Poof, gone. *sad*
One of the worst parts is that I'm still 20 Lbs overweight (I'd say 5-10 of that happened before, after I broke my finger and stopped gardening.) The lower abdomen is 'flat' again. It had started to pop out.
My lower back and hips had to move back, they had started to hurt from spreading, and a month later I believe they're done.
My appetite is back to normal. I hadn't realized how ravenous I was!
I also don't have to pee nearly as much. That was hormonal at that stage. I revel in being able to hold it now!
I'm also not dead tired either. That was starting to ebb some, as it was supposed to, but still. wow. (Motivation isn't back though...I suspect lack of motivation had nothing to do with being pregnant)
Being pregnant suited me. My hormones where stable! I had one major break down because pants didn't fit. other than that, life was quite pleasant. Now. I feel that old bitch creeping back.
And my FACE. Breakout city. ugh.
All in all, people have been good about it. I've taken the outlook that is someone says something, it means they care, and if it's not *quite* right, it's because they just don't know what else to say. And the people who I know know, but don't say anything, just don't know what to say and have decided to stay quiet. My first day of work back was like that. No one said anything.
I've also been amazed at how many women (and a couple guys) have told me it happened to them too. Not being alone in this helps too.

A change
There is a change in me.
I'm not so...jaded...as I thought I was.
Since I've been at the cafe, I've realized, I don't really hate people. Gosh,. for the longest time I did. ugh. But lately I've noticed that the kinds of things that use to bug me, just, don't. I know that people are dumb, so it must be me who has changed. Being nice, or liking people still doesn't come naturally to me, but this shift is interesting.
Not sure if it's been my dabble into Buddhism, or therapy, or just getting older. But you know me, I don't really care why. Hells, I *smile* at strangers, and it doesn't feel forced.
Although, it would be kinda nice to be able to tell you my secret so people could learn from me. Oh well, a guru I am not.

Oh, it's New Years Eve
I'm not big on resolutions...mostly because I forget about them in a month.
I do like to reflect and think about things. And decide what I might do better next year.
Communication is a big thing here. My husband and I would fail at communication if we where being graded. We both get quite defencive. and I have a lot of trouble with empathy. I've got a lot of sympathy. When I notice how you are feeling, I'm SO there. But put myself in your shoes, instinctively, sorry boss. I just don't get it.
So that's one thing to work on, empathy, and dropping the defences.
oh that reminds me of this TED talk about vulnerability:
Yea, some food for thought eh?
I also hope to be a little less scattered. Maybe I need a big white board. 'Cause note books and day planners don't seem to work! (oh, I should go get one...a day planner). It takes me like 10 hours to do 3 loads of laundry cause I keep forgetting!
I also want to make more of an EFFORT to see my friends. it's so easy to just go home and lump it out.
Friends! come over for dinner! we don't have to have a marathon. come over for a couple hours.
what are your plans for change this year? or is everything GOOD?
